Best Verse, Week 88 – De La Soul
The Native Tongues and Long Island’s very own De La Soul is this week’s best verse! Background: De La Soul is an American hip hop trio formed in 1987 on Long Island, New York. The group is best known for their eclectic sampling, quirky lyrics, and their contributions to the evolution of the jazz rap and alternative hip hop subgenres. The members are Posdnuos, Dave and Maseo. The three formed the group in high school and caught the attention of producer Prince Paul with a demo tape of the song “Plug Tunin'”. With its playful wordplay, innovative sampling, and witty skits, the band’s debut album, 3 Feet High and Rising, has been called “a hip hop masterpiece.”It is the band’s biggest commercial success to date, with their subsequent albums selling progressively less, despite receiving high praise from critics. They were influential in the early stages of rapper/actor Mos Def’s career, and are a core part of the Spitkicker collective. They are the second longest standing Native Tongues Posse group, after the Jungle Brothers. In 2006, the group won a Grammy for their collaboration with Gorillaz on the single “Feel Good Inc.”In early 2015, they announced plans to release a Kickstarter-funded upcoming 9th studio album And the Anonymous Nobody in September 2015; it was released on August 26, 2016. The album tracks are said to be the result of multiple improvised jam sessions. The album also features guest appearances from artists such as Damon Albarn, Little Dragon, David Byrne and 2 Chainz.https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/De_La_Soul_discographyPast 20 Week Results:…..Week 67 – Rick Ross – “Devil in a New Dress” – verse 3Week 68 – 50 Cent – “Many Men” – verse 3Week 69 – Big K.R.I.T – “1Train” – verse 7Week 70 – Royce da 5’9″ – “Wishin” – verse 3Week 71 – Action Bronson – “Red Dot Music” – verse 2Week 72 – Big Pun – “Twinz(Deep Cover ’98)” – verse 1Week 73 – 2 Chainz – “Mercy” – verse 4Week 74 – Young Jeezy – “Seen It All” – verse 1Week 75 – Denzel Curry – “Ultimate” – verse 2Week 76 – Cam’Ron – “Down and Out” – verse 3Week 77 – Isaiah Rashad – “Heavenly Father” – verse 3Week 78 – Fabolous – “Wolves in Sheep Clothing” – verse 1Week 79 – YG – “Twist My Fingaz” – verse 1Week 80 – Gucci Mane – “Steady Mobbin” – verse 2Week 81 – Mick Jenkins – “P’s & Q’s” – verse 1Week 82 – Curren$y – “Airborne Aquarium” – verse 1Week 83 – Meek Mill – “Dreams and Nightmares Intro” – verse 1Week 84 – Killer Mike – “A Christmas Fucking Miracle” – verse 2Week 85 – Future – “Codeine Crazy” – verse 2Week 86 – El-P – “The Last Huzzah REMIX” – verse 5Week 87 – Kodak Black – “No Flockin” – verse 1Please provide links with your votes!Post your favorite De La verses here!rememberjustbecauseaversemaybeiconicthatdoesnecessarilymeanit’stheirbestverse. And as usual taking suggestions for next weekSpotify playlist for /r/HHH’s Best Verse of 2015Spotify playlist for top 5 best verses for every week!
